Oil rig inspections using connected UAV

Oil rig inspections come with a high price tag and considerable safety risks. Shutting down an oil rig for maintenance activities can cost operators up to $5m per day.

UAVs provide a cost-effective solution to inspect oil rigs, removing the need for manned operations and decreasing asset downtime.

Inmarsat’s broadband connectivity allows UAVs to send inspection data such as video feeds back to engineers on the ground in realtime, improving decision making capability and mission performance.

FlyLogix: Working with oil companies in the North Sea to drive productivity

FlyLogix works with major international oil & gas companies in the North Sea to inspect oil rigs using its fleet of UAVs. Historically, flight routes are fixed before the mission takes place, with engineers analysing inspection data post flight.

In the UAV Pop-up Lab, Fly Logix will use Inmarsat’s satellite connectivity to stream inspection data back to engineers in realtime. This will enable engineers and pilots to make decisions faster, as well as the capability to re-route the UAV during flight to focus in on identified areas of interest and gather data more efficiently.
